Safeguarding Children and Young People
Waverley School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We expect all staff, volunteers, stakeholders and visitors to share this commitment.
Any photographs or videos taken by parents, carers and relatives at school productions, sports days or other events are for the enjoyment of individual families. They must not be used in anyway that could potentially place a child or young person at risk. This would include publishing images in any form of print, photos or videos on the internet including social networking sites. This is emphasised before all performances, assemblies, concerts, events and shows.
We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment (please see the school policies page on this website) and we work in partnership with families, professionals and other services to safeguard the children in our care. We are aware that our pupils are potentially vulnerable due to a number of factors including their communication difficulties. We prioritise the teaching of communication skills and consent for this reason. We have cultivated an environment which is happy and secure, where every child's voice is listened to and concerns are acted upon promptly.
Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies, when there are concerns about a child or young person. We will ensure our concerns about our pupils are discussed with parents/carers first, unless we have reason to believe that a discussion would be contrary to the child's welfare.
We work closely with the Joint Service for Disabled Children (JDSC commonly known as cheviots) as well as other professionals from health, social care and the police.
Our Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) is Deniz Oguz (Deputy Head teacher). Deniz Oguz is also the DSL for Looked After Children (LAC).
We have a number of deputy DSL's across all sites, these include the Headteacher, the Deputy Head, each Head of Depatment and the Care Coordinator.
The governor for Safeguarding is Jennifer Waite (Chair), who is also a deputy DSL.
